Mbagala bomb victims to get compensation at last

The government has said it will clear all outstanding compensations to Mbagala victims whose houses and other properties were destroyed by bomb blasts five year ago.

The move comes after the victims demanded from the Secretary to the President Prosper Mbena challenging the government’s failure to date to resolve the bomb blasts issue since 2009.

They claimed that the government has not been sensitive enough in the compensation process of their properties, and blamed Mbena for this sttitude.

Yesterday the Chairperson of the blasts victims Steven Gimonge said at a public rally at Mbagala Kuu in Dar es Salaam that the government has finally agreed to pay them.

“Medical compensations, treatment of body disorder to bomb victims will all be settled by the government.Only victims who underwent medical treatment with the relevant medical prescriptions will be compensated” he insisted.

He said the decision to be paid came after their protests about the compensation that attracted media coverage a week ago following government’s non fulfillment of the promises made earlier.

He further claimed that State House officials directed him to talk to the victims assuring them about their compensations in three weeks’ time.

Last Saturday the victims held a meeting reminding the government to execute their promise on additional compensation they had promised.

At least 1,361 victims are demanding for additional compensation payments. They claim that the blasts caused huge damages to their houses and properties.

He said some victims received cheques amounting to a mere Sh2,000. The Guardian on Sunday saw a cheque No. 452163 issued on  August 28, 2012 by the Bank of Tanzania indicating a payments of Sh1,950 to Said Omary Mbonde.
